About US
Leach Maple is a family owned & operated company
Our Story
The Leach Maple Sugarhouse was established in Irasburg Vermont in 1973 by Ernest Gile. Ownership was then transferred to Howard and Geneva Gile until 2006. Third-generation maple sugar makers, Kris and Karen Leach took over ownership and operations with the help of Jamie Griggs (friend) along with their sons Braydon and Landyn (fourth generation). In 2008, the number of taps was doubled, bringing the total number in the sugar bush to 4,000. With the sugar bush doubling in size, a 1-post reverse osmosis (RO) system and a new 4x12 wood-burning evaporator were put into place to speed up production.
In 2012, to keep up with the increased amount of sap production, Leach Maple upgraded to its first 4x12 oil-burning evaporator. The same evaporator is still used in the sugar house to the present day. Over recent years, efficiency has increased by tripling the storage in the sugarhouse along with the upgrade to a 5-post RO system.
Our family is very thankful for the opportunity to work together and produce the best-tasting, 100% natural “VT liquid gold”.
Although the building doesn’t look the same with the changes made, the love and pride we take in making our 100% pure, natural maple products has not. If you find yourself in the NEK of VT, come visit us on the West Glover Rd in Irasburg to see for yourself.
I grew up knowing maple sugaring was a passion that I wanted to continue pursuing as I got older. At the age of 18 in 2022, I began making maple cream for Leach Maple. The Leach Maple Cream was not only fun to make but also became a product that many others enjoyed. I love seeing people enjoy the rich, creamy taste of our delicious Leach Maple Cream. After tasting the maple cream for yourself you might never want to put the jar down as you eat it by the spoonful from the jar. The cream can now be found in many local stores throughout the Northeast Kingdom.
